Kadie, Cricket and Bears Page
The photo above is of our Kadie, she was the best dog anyone could ever have. She was so sweet, and when she was younger she loved to play with the ball and frisbee.
We lost our Kadie to cancer this past year. She will be missed so much. Losing a beloved friend is very hard, and time does heal the pain, but they are never forgotten.
The photo below is our Cricket, we lost her last week. She had a bad case of pneumonia and we tried but we could not save her. She will be missed so much. She was a sweetheart, and will be in our hearts forever.
These poems are for our Kadie, and our Cricket and our little boy Bear. Bear is the little Jack Russel on the right. We lost him in Sept 2013, he was a special boy.
It came to me that every time
I lose a dog they take a piece
of my heart with them, and every
new dog who comes into my life
gifts me with a piece of their heart.
If I live long enough all the components
of my heart will be dog, and I will become
as generous and loving as they are.
FROM FRIEND TO FRIEND
You're giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it's the only way.
That strength is why I've followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I've loved you all these years...
My partner 'til the end.
Please, understand just what this gift,
You're giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I've lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that's within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don't despair my passing,
For I won't be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I'll stay.
I'll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I'll run,
...a young dog once again.
Below another poem for our kids.
“Beau”
By Jimmy Stewart
He never came to me when I would call
Unless I had a tennis ball,
Or if he felt like it,
But mostly he didn’t come at all.
When he was young
He never learned to heel
Or sit or stay,
He did things his way.
Discipline was not his bag
But when you were with him things sure didn’t drag
He’d dig up a rosebush just to spite me,
And then when I’d grab him, he’d turn and bite me.
He bit a lot of folks from day to day,
The delivery boy was his favorite prey,
The gas man wouldn’t read our meter,
He said we owned a real man-eater.
He set the house on fire
But the story’s long to tell.
Suffice it to say the he survived
And the house survived as well.
On the evening walks, and Gloria took him,
He was always first out the door.
The old one and I brought up the rear
Because our bones were sore.
He would charge up the street with Mom hanging on
What a beautiful pair they were!
And if it was still light and the tourists were out,
They created a bit of a stir.
But every once in a while, he would stop in his tracks
And with a frown on his face look around.
It was just to make sure that the old one was there
And would follow him where he was bound.
We are early –to-bedders at our house--
I guess I’m the first to retire
And as I’d leave the room he’d look at me
And get up from his place by the fire.
He knew where the tennis balls were upstairs,
And I’d give him one for a while
He would push it under the bed with his nose
And I’d fish it out with a smile.
And before very long
He’d tire of the ball
And be asleep in his corner
In no time at all.
And there were nights when I’d feel him
Climb upon our bed
And lie between us,
And I’d pat his head.
And there were nights when I’d feel his stare
And I’d wake up and he’d be sitting there
And I reach out my hand and stroke his hair.
And sometimes I’d feel him sigh,
And I think I know the reason why.
He would wake up at night
And he would have this fear
Of the dark, of life, of lots of things,
And he’d be glad to have me near.
And now he’s dead.
And there are nights when I think I feel him
Climb upon our bed and lie between us,
And I pat his head.
And there are nights when I think I feel that stare
And I reach out my hand to stroke his hair,
But he’s not there.
Oh, how I wish that wasn’t so,
I’ll always love a dog named Beau.
I'll always love a dog named Kadie and our Cricket
Our kids, Kadie, Taz, and Bear. Cricket and Zip below.
Another poem for our lost ones. Never forgotten....
Beyond The Rainbow
As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that's trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.
I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful -- lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.
I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I'm alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
'Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.
For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we're never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.
Hope you enjoyed these poems, in memory of our Kadie Girl and our sweet Cricket and our loving boy Bear.
Thanks and have a wonderful day!
